AFL-CIO

John,

Coming out of the second Democratic debate in Detroit, one thing is clear: working people won these debates.

All too often, politicians treat labor issues as a passing talking point. But the past two nights, workers were a constant theme on the debate stage: candidates shared plans to increase union membership and tackle unfair trade deals, and touted their family union membership with pride. And AFL-CIO President Trumka kick-started the first night by addressing the crowd from the stage, reminding everyone what and who we are fighting for:

Whenever labor issues take center stage in politics, all of us win. As President Trumka said, crises facing working people today—stagnant wages, unaffordable health care, outsourced jobs—are the pressing challenges the next president will have to solve. Working people want a candidate who will be a tireless advocate, and won’t settle for anything less.

If you haven’t had a chance, watch President Trumka’s full remarks now.

Every presidential hopeful—and every other lawmaker and candidate—should prioritize the issues that will improve the lives of working families.

In Solidarity,

Team AFL-CIO
