Hi Friend, You might not think of octopuses as sentient, loveable creatures - but did you know that they're incredibly intelligent, inquisitive, and capable of complex behaviours? Unfortunately, this hasn't stopped companies around the world from planning to farm them by the millions, and we need your help to make sure it never happens in Canada. Our leader, Elizabeth May, has sponsored federal petition e-4312, initiated by the Montreal SPCA with support from Animal Justice, the BC SPCA, and other leading animal rights organizations. It calls on the government to prohibit the breeding or raising of cephalopods in captivity on Canadian territory and ban the importation of farmed cephalopod products into Canada. Companies around the world have begun exploring methods of octopus farming, including a company in Spain for a facility that would breed and slaughter up to a million octopuses per year. Octopuses are highly intelligent, inquisitive, and complex beings who feel and respond to pain in a similar way to mammals and are not meant to be raised in captivity. These farms could also have devastating impacts on our oceans, including pollution, habitat destruction, and the depletion of wild fish populations. Take action today, and let’s stop these cruel practices from ever getting to Canada. Add your name to the petition and share it widely before it closes on May 16th. Donate today and help us elect more Green MPs who take issues like this seriously. MPs that will stop octopus farming in Canada and protect our oceans and the creatures that call them home. DonateTogether, we can make a difference and protect our oceans and the creatures that call them home. Please sign our petition and donate today to help us stop octopus farming in Canada. Thank you for your support. Green Party of Canada |
