Building a School-Based Vision Program | |

School-based vision programs (SBVPs) can increase access to pediatric vision services, improve academic performance, and facilitate referrals to community vision care providers. The Journal of School Nursing (JOSN) article, Considerations in Building an SBVP, aims to facilitate SBVP development, implementation, and sustainability processes by offering guidance for school nurses and other stakeholders who aim to build an SBVP, support local programs, or learn more about how SBVPs operate.

JOSN is a peer-reviewed journal published in February, April, June, August, October, and December. It features original research articles. NASN members receive a digital subscription to this journal.
| Key Findings from the YRBS Survey Data Summary & Trends Report | |
NASN is pleased to be hosting a second webinar in May. Highlighting Key Findings from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) Data Summary & Trends Report will be held on Monday, May 8, at 3 p.m. ET.
The program provides an overview of the recent YRBS Report discussing the relevancy and impacts on school nursing. Participants will learn about disparities in adolescents’ behavior, experiences, mental health, trends in adolescent health and well-being, and strategies that schools can employ to promote adolescent health. Lupus Awareness Month, Supporting Students with Lupus
May is Lupus Awareness Month, a time to join together to raise awareness of the physical, emotional, and economic impact while raising funds to support lupus research, care and support services, and educational resources and programs. Learn more and get involved.
School nurses play an important role in transitioning students with lupus from pediatric to adult care. NASN offers a free course and an informational webinar with resources to support the confidence and competence of the school nurse role in transition planning for students with lupus, emphasizing health equity for at-risk students.
