Josh Hawley did more than just prove that he’s a fraud and a coward when
he ran away after raising his fist at the Capitol on January 6th — he made
himself the most vulnerable GOP senator up for re-election in 2024.

FIRST: Hawley’s mentor, three-term U.S. Senator Jack Danforth — a Missouri
GOP icon who cleared the field for Hawley in 2018 — says supporting him
was “the worst decision I’ve ever made in my life.”

THEN: Missouri GOP mega-donor David Humphreys, whose family and network
gave a combined $4.4 MILLION to Hawley’s statewide campaign in 2016,
called him “undemocratic” and a “political opportunist” who “should be
censured by his Senate colleagues.”

AND NOW: Just yesterday, Big Tech billionaire Peter Thiel — who’s donated
hundreds of thousands of dollars to Hawley’s campaigns over the years —
announced he won’t support any Republicans this election cycle because of
their out-of-touch culture wars.

Almost all of Josh Hawley’s support base has abandoned him — and a poll
last month showed him facing “intensely negative sentiments” in Missouri,
with 39% of voters holding STRONGLY unfavorable views.

We have a real opportunity to defeat Hawley and take Missouri’s Senate
seat back for the people next year, but none of this means it’s going to
be easy.

GOP insiders at the National Republican Senatorial Committee are already
working overtime to make Josh Hawley look strong. They’ve launched a
string of desperate attacks at Lucas and — on the very last day of the
most recent FEC fundraising quarter — used their joint committee with
Hawley to transfer $250,000 directly to his campaign.

If these are the kind of resources they’re willing to spend in the
off-year, it’s only a matter of time before they start spending even more
to ramp up their attacks and put Hawley’s campaign in the position to win.
