PARTNER HIGHLIGHTS

Julia Roig from The Horizons Project points out that "The narratives we engage and deploy shape our world. In the face of rising authoritarianism, what stories and tactics drive collaboration within and between movements?" Roig presented at the Carter School for Peace & Conflict Transformation on the Narrative Engagement Across Difference Insights report ([link removed]) .

A new report ([link removed]) from the NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights reveals how companies are creating more hostile relationships with their suppliers in an attempt to drive down costs even further. Suppliers are calling it "blackmail."

Investigative journalist Ian Urbina has launched the video series ([link removed]) Dispatches From The Outlaw Ocean, following the award-winning podcast series. The second episode ([link removed]) , Bondage at Sea, focuses on forced labor, human trafficking, and the severe exploitation of workers in the seafood industry.

As violence erupted between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, Sudan Transparency and Policy Tracker released a statement ([link removed].) calling on the international community to take urgent action to prevent the country’s descent into civil war.

The Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAST) Initiative held a webinar ([link removed]) with the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) to discuss the importance of survivor leadership and inclusion, as well as how to detect instances of forced labor, increase investigations and convictions, and provide remedy to victims and survivors.

This month, Humanity United announced that Rajasvini (Vini) Bhansali and Purity Kagwiria have been appointed to serve as members of our Board of Trustees. Vini and Purity both exemplify HU's spirit of striving to foster a more inclusive, free, and peaceful world where all people have an opportunity to flourish. Humanity United, in partnership with the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs and its Kroc Institute for Peace, held a panel discussion ([link removed]) where speakers shared their distinctive perspectives, roles, experiences, and lessons learned as part of multiple truth commission inquiries.

HU Senior Manager for Peacebuilding, Bryan Sims, will facilitate a panel discussion at the Stockholm Forum on Tuesday May 16 titled Advancing Peace During War: Lessons and reflections from the Region's People Powered Movements. The discussion will center on the potential leverage by civil society and people-powered movements to advance peace – by themselves, through regional solidarity and collaboration and with the support of multilateral actors. Bryan will be joined by panelists Samuel Rizk from United Nations Development Programme and Ivan Marovic from the International Center for Non-violent Conflict, as well as Eugenia Kubakh and Alena Masliukova from Nobel Peace Prize winning organizations Centre for Civil Liberties in Ukraine and Viasna in Belarus.
