Speaker Kevin McCarthy's proposed budget would tear away food assistance and health care for millions of low-income Americans (including CHILDREN) and accelerate a plan to impose work requirements on those receiving food stamps.
Last night, House Republicans proudly passed his cruel Default on America Act, making clear their plan to crash the economy if we don’t bend to their pro-starvation, anti-family agenda that would strip seniors, veterans, and families of their ability to live in dignity.
Growing up, my family and I depended on food stamps, as do 65,000 people in Allegheny County — 43% of whom are children. In fact, Pennsylvania ranks fourth in the country for the number of households receiving food stamps.
I voted against the Republican proposal because as PA-12's Congresswoman, I promise to fight against Republicans' attacks on the safety nets millions rely on. I promise to fight for a better world where we see the humanity of every member of this community — regardless of race, income, ethnicity, or zip code. And I promise to care for my neighbors as part of my family.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: No child should go hungry and bear the shame of not having access to healthy and nutritious food.
The GOP agenda is not about the lives of Americans. If it was about our children and families, Republicans wouldn't be ignoring our maternal mortality crisis, cutting access to health care, blocking paid family and medical leave, slashing funding for childcare, and letting children get shot at school. It's about control.
I will never compromise on the health and livelihood of Pennsylvanians. Please, will you chip in $5 or more today to ensure I have the resources to take on white supremacist supervillains in Congress and deliver the transformative change we need?
