Serving the Hudson Valley

Team, when I first decided to run in last year’s special election, I did so on the cusp of a radicalized SCOTUS decision eliminating the long-held abortion protections for women under Roe v. Wade. I fought to defend the freedoms of this country across the globe. And I refuse to stand idly by while some of those very freedoms are being systematically ripped away from millions of Americans here at home.
That’s why, when a federal judge tried to repeal the FDA approval of a commonly used abortion pill, I got to work with my colleague Lizzie Fletcher to reintroduce legislation to re-assert the FDA’s approval authority over abortion medication. Women should make their own healthcare decisions, not unelected partisan judges who have been thrust into power by far-right organizations and extremist politicians.
Access to abortion medication isn’t a red-state, blue-state issue — it impacts us everywhere, here in New York and beyond. Protecting fundamental freedoms, like a woman’s right to choose, isn’t a vacant
campaign or a political point to be scored. It’s a moral imperative, and I’ll keep up the fight as long as it takes. I’ll keep you updated on our work ahead. Take a look below at what else we’ve been working on this month! |

Thank you, Dutchess County Democrats, for inviting me to speak at your election kick-off event! The work we do now pays dividends this and next November. |
Our office in Newburgh is now open! We are here to serve our community every single day. |
I had a great time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day last month — no one celebrates the holiday like the Hudson Valley! |

Earlier this month, I had the unbelievable opportunity to travel to Ireland with President Biden and some of my colleagues. Our district has one of the largest Irish communities in the country, and it was a deeply moving experience to visit the homeland with the President. |

“We’re really proud to open our main office right on Broadway in Newburgh to send a message to the whole district, but especially to the people in Newburgh, we are here to serve and support you,” said Ryan. “And showing up and being present is a critical first step.” |

Control of the House goes through the Empire State |
When Democrat Pat Ryan won a special House election in upstate New York last summer, it looked like the red wave everyone was expecting in the midterms might not happen. |

Feds pledge $270 million for New York drinking water infrastructure upgrades
|
“We need to modernize our outdated water infrastructure, so that no young child in Orange County, senior in Ulster County, or small business in Dutchess County ever has to worry about access to clean water,” said Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18). “This funding presents a real opportunity to deliver on that promise as we work to accelerate and upgrade our aging infrastructure for communities across the Hudson Valley.” |

Dumping radioactive water into Hudson is ‘outrageous and unacceptable,” says House member |
“I have 100,000 constituents that get their drinking water from the Hudson River – the Hudson Seven,” [Ryan] said. “The idea that radioactive material could come into their drinking water we just cannot allow that to happen so we are going to do everything we can to prevent this.” |

My thoughts on gun safety |
|
|
Last month, we watched a horrific yet familiar scene play out on national television – another school shooting — this time in Nashville. Then, a gunman killed five more and wounded six others in a mass shooting in Louisville, Kentucky. I initially drafted this note laying out the total number of mass shootings in America in 2023. I decided to scrap that number because, and I know, this is horrifying, but it will have changed by the time you read this.
It’s a heartbreaking, self-inflicted, uniquely American tragedy, and it’s only getting worse.
No more excuses! We need leadership and serious action! We cannot keep failing the American people. We cannot keep failing our kids.
I talked about this issue with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on Morning Joe. |
