Hey John – I wanted to follow up on my message from last week with some personal backstory on why reproductive rights are so important to me.

Recently, my colleague Rep. Frederica Wilson and I sat down with ELLE to discuss Black maternal health. You can read more and watch the video of our conversation here. [[link removed]]

I shared how in 1993, after I had already suffered two miscarriages, I had to deliver my stillborn child after carrying the dead fetus for two weeks. This was one of the most challenging experiences of my life.

John, extremist Republicans are now trying to outlaw some of the same medicines that were used to induce my labor. Should I be criminalized today for what I had gone through?

I refuse to stand by idly while our rights are infringed upon. I refuse to stay silent when I know that many other women have stories similar to mine. We deserve to make these decisions – not the government or anyone else.

This past Friday, the SCOTUS temporarily preserved access to mifepristone. The drug will remain on the market for now, but this legal fight is far from over.

Please sign on to show your support for our pro-choice movement as we fight to maintain the right to safe, legal abortions. [[link removed]]

John, if you haven’t been following the recent news on abortion pills, let me fill you in. Last week, a Texas court ruled that the over-the-counter abortion drug mifepristone had to be pulled off the market – despite being considered completely safe to use.

This is just the latest overreach in the GOP’s war on reproductive rights. Ever since Roe v. Wade was repealed last summer, we’ve seen that Republicans will stop at nothing to prevent women seeking abortions from getting the care they need.

So far, the SCOTUS has ruled to temporarily block the abortion restrictions from the lower courts. For the time being, women can still access mifepristone – but this is not a final decision. The extension expires tonight at midnight, so a ruling is expected soon.

I’m continuing to fight in Congress for legal and safe abortions for Americans who want them. John, will you sign on before midnight TONIGHT to say you’re with me and take a stand against Republicans’ attacks on reproductive rights? [[link removed]]

Over half of the abortions in the United States are carried out with pills like mifepristone because it is safe and effective. Even restricting access to mifepristone would be a major blow to folks who are looking to end unwanted pregnancies.

This is a big deal, John, and our pro-choice movement needs to make our voices heard loud and clear. We’ve had enough of blatantly partisan Republican judges meddling with the right to take a pill that’s been used safely and effectively for decades.

Please add your name to say that you find this unacceptable and that you’ll join us as we fight to protect legal abortions across the country. [[link removed]]
