NeRAIN

Hello NeRAIN Volunteers and Friends!

Spring is off to a great start (finally!). Have you finally gotten some time off and decided to get away for the weekend? Come back to moisture sitting on the bottom of your rain gauge, but not sure how to report it due to being gone for multiple days? Fear not, for the NeRAIN program has a way to report it! It?s called the multi-day accumulation report, and it was designed specifically for this purpose.

Where do I find the report? It?s easy to access. All you must do is go to the NeRAIN website [ [link removed] ], click on ?Data Entry?, and find the tab titled ?Multi-day Accumulation?.

How do I fill out the report? There are three simple steps to complete:

* Fill out the ?Beginning Date? area, which is the first day you did not read and submit data,
* Fill out the ?End Date? area, which is the day you got back, checked your gauge, and are recording, and
* Fill out the ?Measured Precipitation? area, which is the amount found in the rain gauge

It is important to note that when measuring the precipitation gathered to record the amount with the correct decimal points. Do not read a half inch, or 0.50, and report five inches! A more common mistake is to read five hundredths of an inch and report a half inch. If you need to double-check, you can head to the daily precipitation form and enter the amount in that sheet, and press check. The digitalized rain gauge on this form should fill up to the amount entered. If it matches the amount measured in the real world, then the decimal placing is correct.?

It is highly recommended by the NeRAIN program to report daily (even when there was no precipitation at all!), but we understand that may not happen because of vacation or other trips that lead to travel away from home. This Multi-day Accumulation form is not a substitute for daily reporting, as this can skew the data collected. However, this report is much better than not reporting at all.
