It has been a busy month across the Scottish Borders.

Here are just a few things I have been working on

Boosting places at the Borders College

It's vital that we support Borders College to provide opportunities for young people and fill local skills gaps for businesses.

But this year, Borders College has received a real terms cut to their budget from the SNP Government.

This damaging cut is despite the fact that the college has more applications than it did at this stage last year.

So I have called on the SNP Government to provide funding for an extra 200 places at the Borders College.

If the SNP provided funding for an extra 200 student places, it would allow Borders College to meet student demand and maintain the excellent level of experience they provide just now.

Delighted for the new Duns nursery

A group of mums have managed to reopen a Duns nursery that was expected to close.

I am very pleased to see Duns Community Nursery up and running, only a few months after the families involved contacted me with fears that there would be a significant reduction in childcare in the town.

It is a great achievement for everyone involved.

Extending the Borders Railway
** ([link removed])

One of the most pressing issues facing Borders residents is the lack of access to reliable and efficient public transport.

I have been working hard alongside local campaign groups to achieve a better rail service for the Borders.

Progress is slowly starting to be made on the extension of the Borders Railway to Hawick, Newcastleton and onto Carlisle.

That extension has the potential to bring enormous benefits to local communities across the area.

I visited the new Hike and Bike Hub in Galashiels and caught up with the team at Tempest Brewing Co.

I had the pleasure of celebrating with local hero Elaine Monro at the Number 10 Downing Street Local Charitys Reception and with local journalist Jason Marshall at the Number 10 Downing Street Local Media Champions Reception.
