Hi John
The results are in for this year's Star Count with a total of almost 4,000 counts!
We’ve now done the number crunching, and the data shows that, unfortunately, light pollution is obscuring views of the night sky for the majority of us.
This was a truly nationwide count with results submitted from all over the UK!
Here's a look at the headlines:
-
75% counted stars in areas with the worst three categories of light pollution.
-
51% counted ten stars or fewer, indicating severe light pollution.
-
Just 5%Â counted more than 30 stars, indicating truly dark skies.
Read about the results in full on our website, take a look at the counts on our interactive map and see how your area compares.
What is clear is urgent action is needed now to reduce light pollution for people, wildlife and the environment.
We need our elected representatives to stand up for the stars and support our calls to improve national and local planning policy to tackle light pollution. But to do that we need you.
If you haven't already, could you spare a minute to email your MP?
With your help we can work towards rewilding our night sky.
Best wishes,
Emma
