JMC Announces Expanded Council of Academic Advisors to Tackle the Crisis in Civic Education
Are America's colleges and universities too far gone?

We are often asked this question by concerned parents, grandparents, and donors who are worried that America's college campuses are turning the next generation against American values.

They are right to be concerned.

Patriotism ([link removed]) is rapidly declining ([link removed]) . Political polarization is rising. In fact, a recent survey from NBC News ([link removed]) showed that nearly half of the college students surveyed would not room with someone who votes differently.

Threats to free speech ([link removed]) and academic freedom are constantly making headlines. And some campuses have moved away from teaching American political theory and history altogether.
At the Jack Miller Center, however, we believe that the tide is turning.

The 1,025 scholars in our network are teaching courses in the American political tradition grounded in America's core values. We work with many of these scholars to find innovative ways elevate these ideas on their campuses, in K-12 education, and in the media.

To help drive solutions, JMC has asked 31 influential scholars to serve on our revitalized Council of Academic Advisors. ([link removed])

The Council of Academic Advisors will inform and advise our board and staff on the state of higher education, help expand the footprint of our national network of professors, and garner broad interest and support from the public through speeches, media commentary, and popular articles.

Hans Zeiger, president of the Jack Miller Center, emphasized the importance of this Council as part of our strategic plan for nationwide impact.

"These distinguished scholars are the core leaders in the movement to renew civic education in America, from our universities all the way down to our communities and K-12 schools," says Zeiger.

“Higher education is far from lost. And with the backing of our esteemed council of scholars, we will be reaching thousands of educators and tens of millions of students in the coming years.”

Help us reach more students
JMC-affiliated scholars and K-12 teachers have so far reached more than 1.6 million students, and it is only the beginning. Invest in civic education today, and help us reach millions more.

A gift of $100 will provide 50 college students with a copy of the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence.

A donation of $500 could provide 25 teachers with reading materials for a week-long seminar on America’s founding principles for the high school classroom.

A donation of $2,500 could sponsor a promising new scholar to attend a JMC Summer Institute to support their teaching and career development and help them reach hundreds of new students.

Your gift of any size will make a difference on campuses today.

About the Jack Miller Center
The Jack Miller Center is a nationwide network of scholars and teachers dedicated to educating the next generation about the core texts and ideas of the American political tradition.

We have three strategies to pursue this mission:
1. build and sustain a community of scholars in the fields of American political thought and history;
2. restore the teaching of American citizenship in K-12 schools that centers on the country’s history, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and other foundational texts in the American tradition; and
3. partner with organizations and philanthropists to advance civic education that is grounded in America’s founding principles and history.
