Thank you, Yang Gang!
Wow. What a journey it has been.
I wanted to take a moment tonight and reflect, despite the delays in counting the results.
When our campaign began, very few people thought it would be real. The New York Times called us a “longer-than-long-shot.”
When I told my family I was going to run for president, some of them asked, “President of what?”
But here we are tonight. And look how far we’ve come.
The message here in Iowa is loud and clear. And I want to take a step back and highlight what just happened tonight.
Thousands of Iowans who had never heard of me just a year ago have woken up.
Thousands of Iowans have woken up to the fact that our country is transforming in ways that we’ve never seen before.
Thousands of Iowans have woken up and understand that while corporate profits are at record highs, so are depression, suicides, and drug overdoses, and we need to change the way we measure our progress in America.
Thousands of Iowans have woken up to the fact that when Amazon closes 30% of stores and malls and pays zero in taxes, we need a new way forward.
They expected us to never contend for the presidency. Yet we’ve already out-competed sitting senators and governors to be one of the few candidates left standing.
They expected us not to have the money to compete, yet we’ve raised nearly $40 million from over 425,000 people in increments of just $30 since this race started.
We know this race will only get tougher. So if you’re ready to keep shocking the world with our campaign and defying every expectation, contribute $10 or more tonight.
The reality is this: Iowa is just the beginning.
The Yang Gang is real, it is growing, and it is just getting started.
Now that we have made our movement clear and real in Iowa, we will grow and grow and accelerate into New Hampshire. And as the field narrows, we will be able to make the choice clearer and clearer to voters and win more and more support.
I’m hopping on a plane tonight to New Hampshire -- more soon.
