We need real leadership on this issue [link removed] CALL PRESIDENT TRUMP NOW to Defend Our Earned Benefits! Dear John,
With so much uncertainty about the future of Social Security and Medicare, the National Committee will be listening carefully as President Trump delivers his State of the Union address to the American people tomorrow night. Millions of older Americans are deeply concerned about their ability to make their monthly Social Security benefit check stretch to cover soaring out-of-pocket health care costs and expenses like rent, groceries and utilities.
And workers and retirees have cause for concern about what's coming next. Recently, President Trump casually suggested he'd be willing to "take a look" at so-called "entitlements," claiming "that's actually the easiest of all things." The fact is, the Trump-GOP tax law that has given huge tax breaks to the wealthy, and done little for everyone else, has exploded budget deficits and created a perfect excuse for President Trump and others to target Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid with devastating cuts and changes. Incredibly, the Trump Administration could be pushing for a second round of tax cuts in its upcoming budget proposal, which could put further pressure on these vital programs! We simply cannot leave anything to chance! So please pick up your phone right now and call the National Committee's toll-free Legislative Hotline at (800) 998-0180. The Hotline will connect you directly with the White House. Please tell President Trump to use his State of the Union address to uphold his promise not to touch Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. President Trump has an opportunity to make it clear in words and actions that he will not break his promise to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid — and that he will keep his promise to reduce soaring prescription drug prices in America. And as the leading advocacy organization in the country fighting to protect our nation's social safety net programs, rest assured that we at the National Committee will hold the President accountable for any decision of his Administration that negatively impacts older Americans and their families. Sincerely, Max Richtman
President & CEO
