Hey Swing Left,
Things feel very uncertain right now, but one thing is clear: we’ve got to flip the Senate, and you’re all in.
After Friday's sham vote on witnesses, we sent a call-to-action to take away McConnell's power by flipping the Senate. Thousands of you stepped up, pooling the most money we've seen raised from a single email since the midterms.
Others went canvassing in Super States last weekend (shout out to the couple who cancelled their vacation plans in Arizona to knock doors!) or wrote letters during the slow moments of the Super Bowl.
And while all eyes are on the Iowa caucuses today, the fight continues. Iowa's not only important because of the role it plays in the presidential race—it's also one of the primary battlegrounds in the race to flip the Senate.
Democrats need just four seats to gain the majority in the Senate—and Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa is one of the most vulnerable GOP senators up for reelection.
If you haven’t had a chance to get involved, you can help flip the Senate by donating to unseat Joni Ernst. Every dollar will go to Ernst’s future Democratic challenger, right when they need it most in the general election.
Ernst is sitting in a historically blue seat—she flipped it in 2014 in the most expensive race in Iowa history. Her win was a linchpin in the GOP game plan to take control of the Senate1—so it’s only fitting we start our Senate comeback tour by flipping this Senate seat.
We know we can win this seat because Ernst is failing Iowans, plain and simple.
She promised to be fiscally responsible, but she voted for tax cuts and unrestrained federal spending that increased the federal deficit to nearly $1 trillion2.
She swore she was anti-Washington, but she’s been in lockstep with Trump and McConnell on everything from health care and the tax bill, to impeachment. We’ll never forget her gleefully telling reporters how the impeachment trial would hurt Democrats.
Ernst is totally beatable in November, but we have to step up our efforts. Right now, she’s outraising her Democratic challenger. If we want to take back this seat, early dollars are going to be key—we have to close this fundraising gap and make sure the future Democratic candidate has what they need to compete from the moment they win the nomination.
It’s not too late to join the fight to flip the Senate: donate to Ernst’s future Democratic challenger today.
Thanks,
Ethan, Michelle, Catherine, Matt, and the Swing Left Team
