ACLU Supporter, We're fighting back against another wave of cruel bills that target the freedom, safety, and equalty of transgender people. Just last week, the U.S. House passed a federal trans sports ban. Missouri moved to effectively ban gender-affirming care. And, Florida expanded its "Don't Say Gay or Trans" law in schools. Altogether, 469 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced since the start of this year, but we're fighting back. Follow the link to the ACLU's map of anti-LGBTQ bills to learn more, stay informed and join the movement. These laws rip away access to medical care and increase the stigma attached to trans people across the country for simply trying to live authentically as themselves. In Arkansas, when the state legislature passed a law to bully trans kids, fifteen-year-old Dylan Brandt said, "Having access to care means I'm able to be myself, and be healthier and more confident. The thought of having that wrenched away... is devastating." Now, Dylan is a part of our ongoing lawsuit against the state's trans health care ban. And it's not just Arkansas. The ACLU is working in courts across the country to protect trans rights. Just last week, we filed a lawsuit against a healthcare ban targeting trans youth in Tennessee. Plus, the ACLU of Missouri just took action to block the Attorney General's ban on gender-affirming care for all ages. There are challenges ahead, but we won't back down. Together, we will defend our freedom to access medical care, express ourselves freely, and exist without fear for our safety. Thank you for all you do to protect trans rights. More soon, The ACLU Team |
