Dear John,
Yesterday we came together in the Western Heights/Beaumont community for the annual State of the City address, where I presented my proposed 2023-24 city budget. This budget continues to prioritize public safety, affordable housing, infrastructure, and great public spaces to serve all who call Knoxville home.
Here is a sampling of some of the noteworthy items contained in the 2023-24 budget proposal:
$4.2 million for the “Transforming Western” project to improve access to housing, transportation, jobs, health care, technology, and parks.
$4 million for parks and greenways across the city.
$2.5 million for the Affordable Rental Development Fund, which to date has worked with builders to create 1,500 new, energy-efficient, affordable homes for Knoxville families.
Nearly $12 million to create and maintain safe streets, including repairs & maintenance for roads, bridges, guardrails and signals; traffic calming initiatives; sidewalks, curb cuts and additional pedestrian & bicycle infrastructure.
Additional funding and staff for evidence-based violence interruption initiatives and the African American Equity Restoration Task Force.
Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to celebrate and look ahead, especially the former Mayors, neighbors, and City employees who work daily to make our city safe and special - you can learn more about specific investments here.
Knoxville is an amazing place to build a life. How lucky we are to call Knoxville home!
