John,
We are honored to announce that the 2023 Klonoski Award for Civic Engagement will be presented to Eric K. Ward at this year's Wayne Morse Gala!
Ward is a civil rights advocate and expert on the topics of race, democracy, and white nationalism in America. He has spent over 30 years studying and combating hate groups, and his work has been recognized by organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti-Defamation League, and the American Federation of Teachers.
Ward has worked extensively with American civil society on the topic of white nationalism and its dangerous effects on society. He's also the author of the seminal essay "Skin in the Game: How Antisemitism Animates White Nationalism." In it, he argues that antisemitism is a key component of white nationalist narrative, and that combating antisemitism is crucial to stopping the rise of white nationalism in America.
Ward is the Executive Vice President of Race Forward and the former executive director of Western States Center. He is the recipient of the 2021 Civil Courage Prize -- the first time in the award's history that an American has been honored.
We are honored to present this esteemed award to such a deserving and dynamic leader.
We know it's going to be a great evening, and we want as many Oregon Democrats as possible to attend. Get your tickets at dpo.org/Morse!
See you there!
