Wall Street and Main Street alike are starting to wake up to the looming threat of a debt ceiling default later this summer.

The consequences of a default are severe and could lead to a recession, market turmoil, and a serious blow to America's standing. Despite this, Washington still hasn't acted to avoid potential disaster.

Speaker McCarthy brought his initial debt ceiling deal to the floor today, and though it passed, the House will be forced to take this up again as the bill is widely suspected to be dead on arrival in the Senate.

No Labels has been sounding the alarm on this issue for a while, and we're working to push our leaders together toward a bipartisan solution. Our allies in the House Problem Solvers Caucus have unveiled a framework that puts us on the path toward a smart deal.

Here's what the Problem Solvers framework includes:

- Suspending the debt ceiling through the end of this year, buying time to start a plan to rein in our spending.
- Establishing an independent commission to come up with a plan to stabilize America's longer-term debt and deficit problems and require Congress to vote on that plan.
- Putting new guardrails on the 2024 budget to stabilize the short-term deficit and bring more order and transparency to the government spending process.
