Republicans have just passed a bill filled with extreme demands they want met in exchange for not blowing up the global economy.

Indivisibles,

The House GOP just passed the “Limit, Save, Grow Act,” a MAGA wish list of horrific demands that would slash benefits for virtually every group of Americans imaginable except for the grotesquely rich.

As we detailed yesterday (see that email, below), the bill would remove people from Medicaid, take food assistance away from millions of seniors and low-income families, screw over veterans, repeal investments in clean air and water, and do a laundry list of other terrible things to hurt working families. These are their demands for not blowing up the world economy over the debt ceiling.

It was clear this bill would get the support of most of the MAGA fanatics who basically wrote it -- especially after Kevin McCarthy tried to cement their support by adding a few more attacks on poor people into the text late last night.

But this bill could not have passed without the support of the 18 Unrepresentatives -- the vulnerable Republicans “serving” in districts Biden won in 2020:

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE-2), Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR-5), Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ-6), Rep. Anthony D'Esposito (R-NY-4), Rep. John Duarte (R-CA-13), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1), Rep. Mike Garcia (R-CA-27), Rep. Thomas "Tom" Kean (R-NJ-7), Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA-2), Rep. Young Kim (R-CA-40), Rep. Nicholas "Nick" LaLota (R-NY-1), Rep. Michael Lawler (R-NY-17), Rep. Marcus "Marc" Molinaro (R-NY-19), Rep. George Santos (R-NY-3), Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ-1), Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA-45), Rep. David Valadao (R-CA-22), Rep. Brandon Williams (R-NY-22)

All 18 voted to hold the global economy hostage, threatening a catastrophic default on our national debt unless the demands of this bill are met. All 18 sided with MAGA ideologues and their wealthy donors over their constituents who’d be harmed by these provisions.

We’re going to make sure every one of their constituents knows about it. We’re going to make them famous for backing the politically toxic policies in this bill -- and then we’re going to defeat them in 2024 and retake the House.

Can you rush a donation to help our groups hold these members accountable, and take back their seats in 2024?

We’re planning rallies in these districts. We’re already jamming their phone lines with angry constituent calls. If we can get enough support, we’ll put up billboards like the ones pictured below in their districts.

Fortunately, this bill is going to die in the Democrat controlled Senate. But its passage in the House complicates this debt ceiling battle and brings us closer to the brink of default.

Every dollar donated allows us to put more pressure on these vulnerable Republicans as we enter the key weeks of this default battle. Every dollar donated allows us to make this vote more politically toxic for them as they run for reelection next year.

Please, chip in what you can to help us avert a default crisis and retake the House >>

Subject: The GOP is threatening to blow up the economy unless their demands are met.

Indivisibles,

As early as tomorrow, the House is scheduled to vote on Kevin McCarthy’s “Limit, Save, Grow Act,” a wish list of toxic policies concocted by the most extreme Republicans in the House.

For months, MAGA Republicans have been driving us towards a catastrophic default on the national debt, which would harm Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, would double unemployment, and would cause a global recession. Now, they’re offering up McCarthy’s bill as the ransom they expect ordinary Americans to pay in exchange for averting the crisis Republicans themselves have created. At the end of the day, this bill would result in:

  • 1.7 million women, infants, and children losing their SNAP benefits, leading to increases in child hunger and poverty
  • $30 billion dollars in cuts to veterans’ programs, making it harder for veterans to access the medical care they need
  • Slashed funding for schools with low-income students and students with disabilities, resulting in potentially over 100,000 teachers and staff losing their jobs
  • Onerous requirements for Medicaid recipients, potentially causing millions of people to lose their health care coverage
  • $80 billion cut from the IRS budget, making it easier for the ultra-rich to cheat on their taxes
  • The end of Biden’s student debt relief program.

And that’s just a fraction of the harm this bill does.

This bill is the direct result of concessions McCarthy gave to the far-right Republicans who made him Speaker. As Matt Gaetz put it, McCarthy "picked up the House Freedom Caucus plan and helped us convert it into the legislative text."

But it’s not just the outspoken MAGA Republicans pushing for draconian spending cuts. In order for the bill to pass, McCarthy needs every Republican vote he can get -- including from the Unrepresentatives -- the 18 vulnerable Republicans currently serving in Biden-won districts.

Many of these Unrepresentatives are getting ready to support the bill even though they know its provisions are politically toxic. They’re hoping that party leadership and GOP billionaires will reward them for it. And they’re praying that their voters aren’t paying attention.

That’s where we come in. If any of the Unrepresentatives vote for this bill, we're going to make sure voters in their districts hear about it. We’ll make them famous for voting to strip benefits away from ordinary Americans while further enriching their wealthy donors.

With your help, we’ll invest in tactics to make this vote politically toxic in their district -- including, if we can fund it, billboards like this one with language tailored to the harmful parts of this bill most relevant to their district.

Indivisibles in target districts are fighting today to get their Reps to vote no and pass a clean debt ceiling increase just like they did throughout Trump’s presidency.

But we know that many of these members will choose their donors over their constituents. Let’s be ready to hold those members accountable and make them own this heinous vote for the rest of their short careers.
