John, no one likes filing their taxes. They're a headache. They're confusing. And they can take not just hours but days to complete.
But at the same time everyday folks are working hard to file correctly, far too many of the richest Americans are doing everything they can to find obscure tax loopholes and avoid paying their fair share. Experts estimate that we're missing out on roughly $7 TRILLION in tax revenue because of these shady dealings.
But Sen. Elizabeth Warren and I have a plan for that. This week, we authored a letter to the IRS Commissioner, urging him to simplify our country’s tax code and allow Americans to more easily file their taxes for free.
After a historic investment from the Inflation Reduction Act, the IRS is already working on ways to make it easier for everyday folks to file their taxes – and harder for billionaires and corporations to skip out on their bill.
With these new reforms, we'll be able to finally chip away at that $7 trillion of uncollected tax revenue. And Democrats are more than ready to redirect that money to addressing the issues that matter most to families: stopping the climate crisis, boosting the economy, lowering prescription drug prices, and so much more.
But that can only happen if we defend our Senate majority. If Republicans retake power, they'll push an extremist agenda with tax cuts for corporations and nothing for working families. We can't afford to miss out on this incredible opportunity for the future of our country: So please, will you chip in $15 so that we can save our Senate majority and continue to deliver progress for your family?
