John,

Tonight, the first votes in the Democratic presidential primaries of 2020 will be cast. This is the most important election of our lifetime. We must defeat Donald Trump so that our country has a leader who respects decency, diversity, the rule of law, and basic facts.

We need a president willing to address the existential threat of our time: climate change. But we cannot look only to the White House for leadership -- we'll need strong champions for science and environmental justice in Congress too!

That's why I'm running for Congress, and why I've laid out the following platform for addressing climate change:

-We need to set ambitious targets and make the United States carbon neutral by 2035.
-To reach those targets, we must aggressively deploy existing technologies in renewable energy, clean vehicles, and ultra-efficient buildings nationwide.
-We need to invest in research on tomorrow’s energy solutions, including in energy production and storage (batteries). That research is going on right now at Stony Brook and at universities around the country -- and we need the federal government’s full support in doing so.

As a scientist and a member of the National Advisory Board of the Union of Concerned Scientists, I'm uniquely qualified to be a climate action leader in Congress. And I'm honored to be supported by 314 Action Fund, a group devoted to getting scientists into Congress to lead this critical discussion based on facts and evidence.

While the presidential race will dominate the headlines for the next nine months, we cannot lose sight of downballot races where we have the chance to effect great change. NY-01 is one of them.

So I ask your help as we continue to make our case to voters. Pitch in any amount here:
