John,
House Republicans are taking every chance they get to destroy the historic climate progress we made in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). And we know that their next target will be this year’s Farm Bill.
The Farm Bill is an essential piece of legislation that covers a wide range of issues affecting our farmers, including soil health, food waste, electrification, climate resilience, and more. The bill is only reauthorized every five years. We cannot miss this one chance we have to get pro-climate agriculture policy included until 2028.
That’s why our SEEC Members are keeping up the pressure. Just this week, SEEC’s Climate and Agriculture Task Force, led by Rep. Chellie Pingree (Maine), and Rep. Kim Schrier (Washington), released a letter urging for the $19.5 billion in agriculture conservation funds that was passed in IRA to be protected in the Farm Bill.
Unfortunately, this push is necessary because Republicans are champing at the bit to cut this money. That’s why SEEC is mounting a full court defense to protect this money for climate-friendly ag.
With agriculture responsible for producing 11% of US greenhouse gas emissions in 2020, it is more important than ever to invest in initiatives that can help to mitigate these effects and protect the environment.
John, this is our next major battle to pass transformational climate policy this year. But the GOP Majority is gearing up to squander this opportunity for us. We can’t let that happen. Please rush a contribution so SEEC members like Reps. Pingree and Schrier can keep fighting for farmers and climate action. [[link removed]]
