John,
You’ve probably seen it in the news: For more than two decades, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has accepted luxury trips from a Republican mega donor.
On top of that, he’s sold 3 properties to a GOP donor — all without disclosing it.
These are clear conflicts of interest, John, and they demand a thorough investigation.
I hope you’ll join me in calling for that investigation, along with increased transparency and an enforceable code of ethics for the Supreme Court >>
Our Supreme Court is supposed to be a neutral and fair arbiter of the Constitution and our legal system. But thanks to Trump and Mitch McConnell, right now it’s home to ultra-conservative justices with hyper-partisan positions — not to mention blatant conflicts of interest like these.
And the truth is that these justices are making decisions that impact Americans’ day-to-day lives — decisions about the future of their fundamental reproductive rights, which districts they cast their votes in, the fate of their debt cancellation, and more.
Decisions like these should not be made by the justices with any input or sway from big donors of either party — and we should do everything in our power to ensure that’s the case.
That means implementing an enforceable code of ethics for the Court, and increasing transparency and accountability for those in our government. Please, join me in demanding action on this:
We must reform the Supreme Court. And an investigation is just the start. We must unstack the Court by expanding it, we have to institute a code of ethics for all Supreme Court justices, and we should consider term limits. I’ll have much more to share on this in the coming months.
Thanks,
— Adam
