Hi John —
In 2024, more than 16 million young people will be eligible to vote for President for the first time – that’s more than 333,000 new voters turning 18 every month!
But the U.S. is one of the only democracies that puts the burden of registering to vote on the shoulders of voters – and that means our voter registration process is the first (but not last) barrier that new voters face in trying to make their voices heard.
At Rock the Vote, our job is to help these young people navigate the election process and vote in every election. Voter registration has a minimum two-to-three year downstream effect, meaning registration efforts are also a get-out-the-vote tactic.

We work with young people every day, so we’re not surprised to see them showing up in growing numbers for our communities and country. But we’re concerned by the number of states making it harder – not easier – to register and vote.
One thing all states can do right now is adopt Connected Voter Registration [[link removed]] and make their registration systems easier for young people to navigate. Connected VR helps third parties like Rock the Vote seamlessly register young people and ensure they make it onto the voter rolls – we’ve helped over 14 million people register to date, and we aren’t stopping there.
In the four states that have already adopted Connected VR, 98%+ of voter registrations are approved, compared to 60-80% from traditional third-party voter registration methods. This could mean the difference between hundreds of thousands of new voters making it onto the rolls – or not. We need to bring this to more states before the 2024 election.
