Patriot, In the 1970s, grassroots leaders prevented the passage of the so-called “Equal Rights Amendment,” which aimed to degrade the distinction between men and women in general and subject them to such things as the military draft. Feminists eventually achieved some of these objectives anyway, to the point a Supreme Court Justice – Ketanji Brown Jackson – cannot even define what a woman is. But critically, the ERA never had the endorsement of enough states to pass, and by 1979, the constitutional amendment application expired. Now, incredibly, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) believes a Joint Resolution can remove the seven-year deadline (from 1979) and allow the ERA to be ratified – despite the fact almost 50 years have passed since most states voted to ratify it and several have even revoked their approval. If passed, and courts condone this – the question has never been raised – Congress will have seized for itself the authority to modify a resolution proposing a constitutional amendment after the amendment has been submitted to the states and after the time limit has expired. This would make any proposal to amend the Constitution inherently dangerous, no matter what the
subject is and no matter what boundaries are claimed. Call your U.S. Senators at 202-224-3121 right away and DEMAND they OPPOSE Senate Joint Resolution 4, which would resurrect the failed 1970s ERA and ignore the 7-year deadline set by the Senate. In addition to procedural issues, the ERA itself is still a dangerous constitutional amendment. If they get away with changing the rules after the game is over to ratify the ERA, it would enshrine in the Constitution that gender cannot be considered on any matter. . . That means men would have full access to women’s sports, women’s locker rooms and bathrooms, women’s domestic violence shelters, and women’s prisons. Think of it: the discrimination women face in America today is at the hands of the very same people pushing this constitutional amendment. Women, girls, and anyone in a vulnerable situation would be harmed by eliminating the legal recognition and protection that males and females are biologically different from each other. Not only that, but it could even force taxpayer-funded abortion in all 50 states. This amendment would not only tamper with the fabric of the Constitution to harm women, it also throws open the door for future damaging amendments by allowing Congress to violate its own rules on ratification. So call your U.S. Senators at 202-224-3121 right now and DEMAND they OPPOSE Senate Joint Resolution 4 and ACCEPT that the ERA was not ratified. Patriot, even former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, well known for her liberal beliefs, said the timeline had expired, and proponents had to start from scratch. Because the resolution requires 60 votes for a full Senate vote, this is a fight we can win. But we know Republicans are weak-kneed to begin with, don’t understand the implications of the ERA, and are afraid to be accused of being “anti-woman.” So it is critical you contact your U.S. Senators at 202-224-3121 now to expose and oppose this scheme, which of course the mass media isn’t talking about. After you make your calls, please chip in a contribution to support Campaign for Liberty so we can continue to inform and mobilize American patriots. Thanks for all you do for Liberty, Heather D. Director of Legislative Affairs P.S. It’s not just bad policy – it’s not just changing our Constitution – it’s changing the way the Constitution can be amended. This is a dangerous precedent.
