** If I were a cynic I would say that the EPA is rooting for CCS to fail.

Washington Times ([link removed]) (4/25/23) reports: "The Biden administration is poised to impose new carbon capture rules for natural gas power plants even as states and industry groups complain that the EPA is lagging far behind on permits allowing for the construction of the new technology. The new rules, which could be announced as soon as this week, would require new natural gas power plants to implement technology that captures carbon emissions, industry insiders who have knowledge of the plan said...Environmental groups who seek to completely eliminate the use of fossil fuels have been pressuring the Biden administration to require natural gas power plants to cut carbon emissions, in part because the cost and difficulty of implementing carbon-cutting technology will make renewables like wind and solar a more attractive energy source for power plants. 'The environmental community is one of the
biggest organizational and financial arms of the Democratic Party political machine. They have been clamoring for more, more, more and more,' said Thomas J. Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research, which analyzes government regulation of global energy markets and advocates for market-driven solutions. The new rules the Biden administration is about to impose on natural gas plants, Mr. Pyle said, are meant to eliminate natural gas plants entirely. 'The rule is very cleverly written in that it asks the industry to comply with technology that they themselves are slowing down,' Mr. Pyle said."

** "We need to rethink the sustainability agenda. Protecting the environment cannot come at the cost of jobs and growth. We should also assist developing countries in achieving a more prosperous future."

Wait what? Chevy is closing it’s Bolt EV plant to make EV trucks? The size of the electric truck market is about 100 guys.
** CNBC ([link removed])
(4/25/23) reports: "General Motors plans to stop production of its electric Chevrolet Bolt models by the end of this year, CEO Mary Barra told investors Tuesday when discussing the company’s first-quarter earnings. The Chevy Bolt EV and EUV, a larger version of the car, make up the vast majority of the company’s electric vehicle sales to date. However, the battery cells in the cars are an older design and chemistry than the automaker’s newer electric vehicles such as the GMC Hummer and Cadillac Lyriq, which utilize GM’s Ultium architecture. Barra said a suburban Detroit plant that has produced Chevy Bolts since 2016 will be retooled in preparation for production of electric Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks scheduled for next year. There’s irony in the timing of the Bolt getting axed. It comes amid record production and sales of the vehicle for mass-market consumers, which was GM’s initial goal."
This is not what exporting freedom looks like.

(4/21/23) reports: "The U.S. Department of Energy on Friday announced it will change how it approves requests by companies to push back start dates for liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects to get a better picture of true demand for the fuel. The DOE will now no longer consider a new application for a seven-year commencement extension, unless companies prove they have physically started construction on an LNG export facility, or faces extenuating circumstances. The new policy will not apply to companies that have applications pending. The measure is one in a series of new orders announced by the DOE’s office of fossil energy and carbon management aimed at keeping the U.S. on track to meet its goal of net zero emissions by 2050 while supplying allies with natural gas...In a related move, the DOE also issued a request for information from LNG industry participants on Friday on strategies and technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants throughout the LNG
process. The DOE has been working on setting standards for certified natural gas, a form of the fuel that producers market as climate friendly."
Talk about tilting at windmills! The Dutch are trying to reduce bird slaughter.... from wind turbines.

(4/25/23) reports: "The Netherlands heavily relies on wind turbines in its energy transition — at the expense of thousands of birds that get killed by fast-spinning blades. Now officials say they have a solution to spare some of the migratory animals. In a project in conducted with the University of Amsterdam, Dutch Minister for Climate and Energy Policy Rob Jetten will ask some wind parks in the North Sea to slow their blades during migration twice a year to provide safe passage to birds, according to the government plans seen by Bloomberg."
