John — Last week was a historic week for care, as care workers from across the nation gathered in D.C. and President Biden signed an executive order giving more families access to the care they so desperately need.

Just days later, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) introduced a debt ceiling bill that attacks federal care programs and threatens to take Medicaid away from people who don't meet bureaucratic work requirements.

If passed — and a vote is scheduled for TODAY — millions of people who rely on Medicaid for their basic life-sustaining needs could lose access to vital care. This includes seniors, children, and people with disabilities who depend on Medicaid to meet their basic needs.

We need your help, John. It's time to take action and tell your representative in Congress to protect Medicaid. Send a letter urging your member of Congress to reject any proposals that limit funding or eligibility for this essential program. [[link removed]]

Medicaid is the backbone of the care infrastructure for families in the United States , with 88 million Americans relying on this essential program for their health care. This includes 54 million seniors, children, and people with disabilities who depend on Medicaid to meet their basic life-sustaining needs.

When people with disabilities need support in their own homes or getting around in their community, Medicaid helps families get access to care workers and helps them live independently.

Meeting basic life-sustaining needs should not be contingent on meeting a work requirement. We need more investment in and access to care programs, not cuts – and members of Congress need to hear from you that cuts and changes to Medicaid are unacceptable and should be off the table [[link removed]] .

Together, we can continue our fight for the care that every family deserves.

Thank you for taking action now and making your voice heard!

The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.

Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
