The passing of the USMCA last Wednesday was a big blow to us after all the hard work we put in this year but that doesn’t mean the war is over! JBS has been in the fight for over 60 years and won’t stop after one defeat. Moving forward, we will be continuing to monitor the USMCA and will be reporting on its devastating effects on American sovereignty.
While we shouldn’t forget about the USMCA, we should be switching our focus to the Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) movement. A constitutional convention is a method of amending the Constitution in one of two methods that was put in Article V of the Constitution.
The tricky thing about participating in our Con-Con project is just how short the legislative sessions of many states are. Most states began their 2020 legislative sessions in January and by the end of April, 20 states will have already adjourned. Because of this we urge you to Google “state legislative calendar 2020” to stay up to date on your state’s schedule.
It is also important to locate your state on the BBA Con-Con Status Map and the COS Con-Con Status Map which can be found at JBS.org or in the February Bulletin. The most important thing you can do is to help get a resolution passed by your state legislature to rescind all existing Con-Con applications. However, getting a rescission resolution passed in your state can take up to several years, so in the meantime it is still very important to stop any new Con-Con applications (such as BBA, COS, Wolf-PAC, or Term Limits) in your state this year.
It’s vital to get in contact with the local coordinator in your area to see what is happening regarding Con-Con applications and what you can do to help. “Guard The Constitution” has been great in their efforts as they will be hosting a debate with Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States on Thursday.
As of today, Meckler has not accepted the challenge; however, whether or not he’s present, the debate will still be held in a very interesting and informative way. The Convention of States has been working for years to bring about a convention to amend the U.S. Constitution.
Shawn Meehan, founder of Guard The Constitution, and Robert Brown will be debating this topic with Meckler. Although this debate is in Idaho, all are encouraged to watch online at
Idaho PBS.
Finally in this week’s
Matter of Action, Wayne Morrow discusses with Larry Greenley new updates regarding the Con-Con movement, why this movement is dangerous to our Constitution and what you can do to help stop it. Although getting rescission resolutions passed and stopping new Con-Con applications may take a while, the sooner you start, the better.
