Right now, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is pushing forward the Default on America Act, a reckless and extreme bill that threatens the biggest piece of climate legislation in U.S. history—the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

I won’t mince words: This bill is an attack on American people—our economy, our jobs, our health, and our climate. It would cut our hard-won climate provisions like EV tax credits and electrification rebates, drive up inflation, jeopardize our health, and eliminate clean energy jobs spurred by the IRA. It would drive up costs for American households, hitting low-income and marginalized communities especially hard.

We cannot let Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans torpedo the historic climate action we worked so hard to pass, and we must urgently call on Democrats to defend it. Send a letter to your members of Congress now and tell them to protect the IRA. 

Republicans are forcing the country towards a choice between two equally disastrous futures: forgoing the real economic benefits that can come with addressing the climate crisis or tanking the U.S. economy by not raising the debt ceiling. We must reject both and let the IRA keep doing what it was designed to do—create millions of good-paying jobs and deliver clean energy and bold climate action.
