John,
We’ve heard from election workers on the frontlines about the stressors they have faced over the last few years and how sufficient and predictable federal funding is necessary to maintain our nation’s election infrastructure. And guess what? Most Americans agree!
That’s why Issue One is working to ensure local elections officials have the resources they need to protect and strengthen this cornerstone of our democracy.
Today we released a new poll that found that 7 in 10 Americans — across party lines — think the federal government should be equally, if not more, responsible than local municipalities and states when it comes to funding elections.
This public sentiment echoes our recently released report that outlined steps the federal government and state legislatures should take to make our elections stronger and more secure going into 2024. Among the key recommendations was for significant election investments noting the persistent lack of sufficient federal funding for local and state election administration.
That’s why members of Issue One’s bipartisan National Council on Election Integrity and our Faces of Democracy campaign sent letters to Congress today urging them to adequately fund U.S. elections in advance of the 2024 elections.
But don’t just take our word for it. In recent interviews with Faces of Democracy members, they highlighted the need for more federal election funding. Read our conversations with them to see why Congress needs to invest in our democratic infrastructure.
We’re making progress on our critical election protection work, but there’s still more work to do. Issue One is committed to building faith in our system of free and fair elections, and with your support, we’ll continue to strengthen our democracy.
We’re glad you’re with us,
Dokhi Fassihian Deputy Chief of Strategy and Program
