It’s an honor to have the support of EMILYs List and their amazing network—and to stand alongside my fellow women senators running this year.
EMILYs List has been there for me from the beginning. I first ran for Congress in 2006, taking on a GOP incumbent in a 2:1 Republican district. When I launched that campaign, my mom was just about the only person who thought I could win.
But with EMILYs List (and my then-two-year-old son Theo) by my side, I defied the odds and flipped my upstate House district blue.
We’ve accomplished a lot since then—from securing health care for 9/11 first responders to ending the military’s discriminatory Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy to passing a federal ban on gun trafficking.
I’m running for reelection because we still have so much left to do. We need to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law and restore reproductive freedoms across our country. We need to pass national paid family and medical leave and affordable child care. We need to make health care more affordable, protect voting rights, and take meaningful action on climate change.
But I need your help. With so much at stake, Democrats are hanging onto our Senate majority by a thread. Mitch McConnell only needs to flip two seats to retake control—and after New York Republicans secured historic victories across the state during the midterm elections, the GOP is targeting me for defeat.
