Dear John,
Last year, Congress voted to redefine marriage, exposing Americans with a religious belief or moral conviction that marriage is or ought to be between a man and a woman to even more targeted attacks for their sincerely held belief in man-woman marriage. Now, we’re just beginning to see the fruits of this decision, with new reports of Americans facing government discrimination for their marriage beliefs.
Will you contact Delegate Norton now and urge them to protect those with sincerely held beliefs about man-woman marriage?
Earlier this year, police officer Jacob Kersey was forced out of his job for a Facebook post on his personal account in which he affirmed biblical marriage. On January 2, Kersey posted that “Marriage refers to Christ and the church. That’s why there is no such thing as homosexual marriage.”
The next day, Kersey’s supervisor called him and told him that someone had complained about the post and that he needed to take it down. The police chief told Kersey that sharing the truth about biblical marriage was equivalent to using a racial slur. Kersey was told that he would be put on administrative leave while further action was considered. The department then presented him with a choice—to either quit his job or refrain from sharing his opinions on social media. Kersey decided to resign, sensing that if he stayed, he would inevitably be fired.
Unfortunately, instances like these are likely to become more frequent, as we begin to feel the full impact of Congress’ redefinition of marriage. Federal, state, and local governments are engaging in discrimination, which is why Congress needs to act.
Thankfully, Rep. Chip Roy (TX) is leading the charge to establish protections for such marriage beliefs by making sure that federal funds are not used to discriminate against sincere people of faith.
Tell Delegate Norton to support Representative Roy’s efforts and click here to see if they have already shown their support.
No government should be allowed to discriminate against someone solely due to their sincerely held religious beliefs. Congress must act to ensure that the right of all to participate in society in accordance with their beliefs and worldview is protected.
Sincerely,
