Biden in Big Trouble With Texas Hispanics...

• New polling finds President Joe Biden trailing both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis among Texas' general election voters ... including Hispanic voters. Brandon Waltens has the details.
       
• Polling commissioned by the Defend Texas Liberty PAC finds Trump leading 52-36 over Biden with Hispanic voters. The same poll has DeSantis leading Biden by a margin of 42-30.
       
• Among all demographics, Trump leads Biden 45-42 percent, while DeSantis' lead is 44-40 percent.

... And Texas Voters Want Kids Protected

• In the same polling mentioned above, 60 percent of general election voters think it should be illegal to “sexually transition their children through permanent puberty blockers and transition surgery,” compared to 23 percent who believe it should be legal.
       

• Similarly, 60 percent of general election voters believe parents should not be allowed to take their children to sexually explicit drag shows, with 26 percent saying they should.

House Speaker Is Ready For A Vacation

• Even though the Texas House is moving at a historically glacial pace and refusing to advance conservative grassroots priorities, Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) took to social media to express his yearning for a summer vacation.
     
• "Stoked for some tasty waves on the Texas Coast this summer after #txlege hits its gnarly Sine Die!" – Dade Phelan
      

• The House has yet to pass legislation on border security, school choice, banning child gender mutilation, protecting minors from explicit performances, or protecting gun rights, among other conservative priorities.
       

• Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, meanwhile, has teased the potential of a special session—legislative overtime—if the House continues to move slowly on conservative priorities, which could put a damper on Phelan’s summer plans.

Deadly Accident Depletes Resources in Kinney County

• As the border crisis continues with devastating consequences for illegal aliens and Texans alike, Sydnie Henry reports one deadly traffic accident has depleted a month’s worth of emergency supplies in one border county.

      
• Earlier this week, troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety attempted to pull over a black pickup suspected of smuggling illegal aliens through Kinney County. The driver attempted to evade arrest and ended up rolling the vehicle in a ditch. As the vehicle rolled, several passengers were ejected from the vehicle.
     
• Emergency workers coordinated on the ground as four helicopters were dispatched for medical evacuation flights. Two people died at the scene, and another died en route to a hospital.
      
• County taxpayers will foot the bill for this accident, and it’s unlikely anything will stop it from happening again under the current federal policies.

HOPPER: Texas Must Take the Lead

• In a new commentary, Andy Hopper writes Texas should take its rightful place as the leader of the charge to put the federal government back in its small box.
      

• "Our Founders expected the federal government to operate within very well-defined parameters, exercising very few powers. They expected the federal Bill of Rights to be almost redundant, with the states themselves enumerating a much greater set of rights and, conversely, the Founders expected the states to retain almost all powers that any other nation on earth would exercise." – Andy Hopper

Church Leader Urges Congregation to Vote in Local Elections

• The influential leader of North Texas' Gateway Church is once again encouraging his congregation to vote in local elections and to consider candidates whose values align with biblical principles. Erin Anderson explains that Gateway is a multi-campus megachurch based in the metroplex.

      
• On Sunday, Pastor Robert Morris highlighted several local candidates on the May 6 ballot who are part of the “church family.” He reminded his congregants: "We pray, and we vote."
      
• “I want you to know, Gateway Church does not support or endorse any candidate or any political party,” said Morris. “But we do endorse biblical principles, and we do believe that as good citizens we should vote national, state, local elections.”
      
• All 13 of the local candidates highlighted by Morris during last year’s local elections won their races.
      
• Early voting is underway statewide through Tuesday, May 2, for many municipal and school elections. Election Day is Saturday, May 6.
