President Biden Announces 2024 Reelection Campaign

Fox News: President Biden announced that he and Vice President Harris will seek re-election in a video released early Tuesday morning. In the video titled “Freedom,” President Biden echoed his 2020 campaign message of battling for the “soul of our nation,” uniting the country, and supporting the middle class, his campaign said. The announcement comes four years to the day that Biden announced his candidacy for the 2020 presidential election (Fox News). Joe Biden: Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours. That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job (Twitter). Hill: Former President Obama boosted President Biden’s reelection bid on Tuesday, saying “let’s get to work” to reelect Biden (Hill).

Karine Jean-Pierre Did Not Tell Reporters Whether or Not President Biden Would Serve a Full Term if Reelected
Daily Mail: White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to say President Joe Biden would serve out his entire term if reelected at a briefing Tuesday – then quickly cleared up the comment online. Jean-Pierre fielded questions hours after Biden announced he would seek reelection in a three-minute video. That came at a White House press briefing where the very first question was about the Hatch Act – and where Jean-Pierre repeatedly tried to sidestep questions that might require to navigate the nuances of the law on politicking by federal employees. Asked if Biden, 80, planned to serve ‘all eight years’ if elected to a second term, she responded: ‘I’m just not going to get ahead of the President. That’s something for him to decide. I’m just not going to get ahead of it’ (Daily Mail). Reporter Alex Thompson: “Does the president plan to serve all eight years?” Press Sec: “That’s something for him to decide” (Twitter).

President Biden Set to Veto Speaker McCarthy’s Debt Limit Proposal
Biden is not willing to negotiate or even speak with McCarthy about the budget. He is driving us closer and closer to a default. Fox News: President Biden is threatening to veto House Republicans’ “extreme” bill to address the debt limit, warning GOP lawmakers their measure could cause a recession and urging them to “take default off the table.” The White House accused House Republicans of proposing an “irresponsible” measure that would have “hard-working Americans” “shoulder the burden of devastating cuts, while doing nothing to ensure that wealthy or large corporations pay their fair share.” The White House said the bill would “force severe cuts” to education, food safety inspections, rail safety, health research, public safety, border security and veteran’s medical care, while also repealing Biden’s “one-time student debt-relief plan” (Fox News). Axios: It’s the latest sign the Biden administration is firm on its refusal to negotiate with McCarthy on anything except a “clean” debt limit increase (Axios).

Joe Manchin Dealt with Democrats in Good Faith, Got Burned
Joe Manchin has buyer’s remorse. Katie Pavlich: As the devastating effects of the “Inflation Reduction Act” start to come to fruition, crushing the oil and gas industry while driving up inflation and increasing federal government spending, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin is doing his best to run away from the legislation…which he pushed over the finish line with his vote and onto President Joe Biden’s desk for signature (Townhall). Sen. Joe Manchin: The Biden administration is breaking its word to the American public by ignoring the text of the #InflationReductionAct to pursue its radical climate agenda. Let me be clear: if this continues, I’ll do everything in my power to stop them — including voting to repeal the IRA (Twitter). Townhall: Senator Joe Manchin voted for the “Inflation Reduction Act.” Now, he’s PISSED about how it’s been implemented. “I am SO UPSET about this because they’re doing everything they can to BUST THE BUDGET, what we PROMISED the American people what it would cost” (Twitter).

Nikki Haley Delivers Pro-Life Speech in Effort to Unite Moderates
Washington Examiner: Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley aimed to find a national “consensus” on limiting access to abortion in a speech on Tuesday at the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. “I said I want to save as many babies and help as many moms as possible. That is my goal, to do that at the federal level. The next president must find national consensus,” Haley said (Washington Examiner). Nikki Haley: At the federal level, I will focus on protecting as many babies and helping as many moms as possible. We can build consensus in many key areas, like banning late-term abortion and making adoption easier (Twitter). Townhall: It wasn’t merely pro-life Republicans whom Haley was issuing reminders to, though. Rather, pro-abortion Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media need to be called out for their role in trying to “score political points” by spreading fear about where Republicans stand on the issue (Townhall).

Leftists Cheer on Censoring Fellow Americans
Democrats celebrate silencing political opponents. Federalist: The left-wing reaction to Tucker Carlson’s departure from Fox News reveals deplatforming and silencing dissenting views has always been their goal. New York Democrat Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez celebrated Carlson’s network exit Monday night as the prime-time anchor spent his first weeknight off air unplanned since 2016.  Deplatforming remains the primary vehicle among left-wing ideologues to cement a monopoly on thought and acceptable discourse from the college campus to the corporate boardroom (Federalist). ALX: AOC on Tucker “Deplatforming works and it is important.” The Democrat Party is the Party of Censorship (Twitter).

First Republic Bank Shares Crater by Nearly 50 Percent Overnight
Financial Times: Shares of First Republic continued to plunge on Tuesday as regulators in Washington and financiers on Wall Street scrambled to come up with a plan to stabilise the ailing bank. The California-based lender’s stock price, which is down by more than 93 percent this year, fell by a further 49.4 percent, a day after it revealed its customers had withdrawn $100bn of deposits during last month’s turmoil. They said the leading options are for some of the large US banks that recently deposited $30bn into First Republic to rescue the lender, or for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to take control of the institution and offer a government guarantee for all deposits, as it did with SVB (Financial Times). Wall Street Journal: Investors are worried about the grim math behind First Republic’s operations. The bank is paying more to borrow money. But many of the loans it made to customers carry long-term, fixed interest rates, putting a continued squeeze on the bank. First Republic said Monday that while its average account sizes decreased, it retained 97% of client relationships from the start of the first quarter. It also announced a number of changes, including job cuts, meant to right the ship (Wal Street Journal).

Nestlé Skyrockets Prices by 9.8 Percent Amid Worldwide Inflation
Daily Wire: Nestlé, the largest food and drink company in the world, raised prices by a collective 9.8% in the first three months of the year as inflationary pressures increased input costs for the business. The Swiss conglomerate, which owns a variety of food brands such as Purina, Gerber, Nescafe, and KitKat, said in an earnings report that the price increases in several markets across the world came as a result of “significant cost inflation.” The firm’s Latin American and North American markets saw 13.4% and 12.4% price hikes respectively, while the European market saw a 10.7% price increase and the Chinese market saw a 3.9% price increase (Daily Wire). CNBC: It comes as consumers struggle with sharply higher prices of food, household basics and beyond. While year-on-year headline inflation has cooled to 2.9% in Switzerland, it remains at 6.9% in the euro zone and 10.1% in the UK (CNBC).

President Trump Hints at Skipping RNC Debates
Washington Examiner: Former President Donald Trump appeared to cast doubt about whether he will participate in the GOP debates. “I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them. When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA-hating anchors asking the ‘questions,’ why subject yourself to being libeled and abused?” Trump wrote on Truth Social. The Republican National Committee announced the first primary debate will take place in Milwaukee in August and will be hosted by Fox News. The RNC also announced the second debate will take place at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, but the exact date and moderator have not been specified. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has repeatedly warned candidates that they must pledge support for the nominee if they are to be eligible for the debates (Washington Examiner). Hill: The potential for 2024 general election debates remains in question: The RNC last year voted to withdraw from the Commission on Presidential Debates, accusing the group that has run the debates since 1988 of bias against its candidates (Hill).

Lia Thomas Accuses Teammates of Fake Feminism for Not Supporting Her Competing
New York Post: Controversial transgender swimmer Lia Thomas slammed her “feminist” adversaries as misogynistic transphobes who reduce women to the value of their reproductive abilities. The NCAA gold medalist told fellow trans swimmer Schuyler Bailar that her own University of Pennsylvania teammates displayed fraud feministic beliefs when they wrote a 2022 letter asking the division to bar Thomas from competition. “They’re using the guise of feminism to sort of push transphobic beliefs. I think a lot of people in that camp sort of carry an implicit bias against trans people, but don’t want to, I guess, fully manifest or speak that out. And so they try to just play it off as this sort of half-support” (New York Post).
