John: When a parent takes the Broad Street line to drop a child off at daycare, a delivery worker carries groceries on their bicycle, a senior takes daily walks with a friend, or a wheelchair user rides the bus to work each morning, they deserve to feel confident, safe, and supported.
I’ve spent years fighting to make traveling our city safer and easier. As a Councilmember, I passed laws that saved workers money with pre-tax commuter benefits and required safer sidewalks around construction sites. And I led the efforts to make public transit more equitable by ending transfer fees and youth fares.
As Mayor, I’ll build on that track record by growing SEPTA ridership, reducing traffic fatalities, and ensuring everyone can easily, affordably, and confidently travel across the city. Here are the highlights of my plan:
*
Addressing
the
congestion
clogging
streets
and
polluting
our
air
through
a
mix
of
new
policies
and
enforcing
existing
ones
—
such
as
non-police
Public
Safety
Officers,
expanding
and
enforcing
dedicated
bus
lanes,
and
promoting
vehicle
electricization.
*
Increasing
public
transit
use
by
making
SEPTA
clean,
safe,
reliable,
and
service-oriented.
I
will
support
daily
cleaning
and
make
safety
on
buses,
subways,
and
in
stations
a
top
priority
—
increasing
coordination
between
SEPTA
and
City
police
and
ensuring
a
special
focus
on
the
times
children
are
commuting
to
and
from
school.
*
Making
sure
streets
and
sidewalks
are
accessible
and
safe
by
increasing
city
paving
capacity,
expanding
our
network
of
protected
bike
lanes,
and
creating
a
Sidewalk
Safety
Program
to
ensure
clear,
well-maintained
walkways.
*
Splitting
the
Transportation
and
Sanitation
Department
into
two
separate
departments
to
improve
services
and
ensure
a
clear
mission,
leadership,
and
accountability.
*
Ending
the
courtesy
tow
madness
and
ensuring
the
location
of
every
vehicle
subject
to
“courtesy
towing”
is
centrally
tracked.
My transportation agenda will unlock opportunities for employment, education, and economic development, and it will make Philadelphia a greener, cleaner city for the future.
But first, we need to win the primary election on May 16th, and with a historically deep field of candidates — including self-funding multimillionaires — that will take all of us stepping up.
If you’d like safer streets, cleaner air, and more accessible public transit for all Philadelphians, please make a donation of any amount to power my campaign to victory. [[link removed]]
