Saturday, April 29: Join the Latin America & Caribbean Policy Forumin Washington DC, at American University!
<[link removed]>Yes, I will join the Forum! <[link removed]>
Dear John,
Before my career in journalism, I spent several years as a Latino community and civil rights activist, helping to found and lead the Young Lords Party during the late 1960s and the National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights in the early 1980s. My experiences during that time have given me a deep appreciation for the power of grassroots movements to effect change and inspire hope.
That is why I am thrilled to invite you to the Latin America and the Caribbean Policy Forum <[link removed]>, this Saturday, April 29, where we will explore how governments and people in the Americas are rejecting the 200-year-old Monroe Doctrine and demanding respect and non-interference from their neighbor to the north.
Together, we will look at movements that are opposing sanctions and unilateral intervention, countering militarism with cooperation, building independent regional institutions, addressing the climate crisis, and helping migrants. Register now <[link removed]> to hear from brilliant speakers such as Belly of the Beast’s award-winning Cuban journalist Liz Oliva Fernández, Mexican renowned scholar of Critical Theory and the Philosophy of Liberation Jorge Zuñiga, and Nick Estes, founder of the indigenous resistance group Red Nation.
<[link removed]>
But we won't stop at just hearing about their struggles and triumphs. We'll also explore actionable steps we can take to stand with them, and demand change from those in power. Together, we'll map out a new roadmap towards a respectful and positive relationship towards Latin America and the Caribbean
I truly believe that this forum is a unique opportunity to engage with these vital issues and to learn from some of the brightest minds in the region. Best of all, registration is completely free. But space is limited, so I encourage you to register now <[link removed]> and secure your spot.
I look forward to seeing you there.
In solidarity,
Juan Gonzalez
