Last week, House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan brought the
committee to Lower Manhattan for a field hearing — and got exactly what he
wanted when a heckler repeatedly interrupted Adam to call him a “scumbag”
as Adam was standing up to the committee’s Republican majority for acting
as Trump’s criminal defense counsel.

This is exactly what Jordan wanted, to create a spectacle. He hopes to
undermine the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s efforts to hold
Trump accountable. He must not succeed. The Congress has no business
interfering in a local prosecution or trying to place Donald Trump above
the law.

But the attacks on Adam are getting even worse: Fox News host Sean Hannity
is amplifying the heckler’s insults to incite more right-wing fury against
Adam and distract from Trump’s case.
