Sudan Fighting Eclipses New Truce

Sudanese and foreigners streamed out of the capital of Khartoum and other battle zones, as fighting Tuesday shook a new three-day truce brokered by the United States and Saudi Arabia. Aid agencies raised increasing alarm over the crumbling humanitarian situation in a country reliant on outside help, as the AP reports.

Russian jet fighters and drones are harassing U.S. forces in Syria with increasing frequency, according to American officials, creating new risks of a deadly miscalculation between the two military superpowers, as the WSJ reports.

A group of leading Russian lawyers on Tuesday asked the country’s highest court to declare a law banning criticism of the Russian armed forces unconstitutional, a rare display of opposition against draconian censorship measures imposed by the Kremlin in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, as the NYT reports.

I received a bunch of notes about the clip I played yesterday by Delaney & Bonnie and Friends. While they aren’t a household name or mentioned very often when talking about the best bands of the late 1960’s-early 70's, they were one of the most influential. Eric Clapton has said that Delaney Bramlett taught him how to sing.

Even when Delaney & Bonnie were covering other bands’ songs, they brought a spirit and a swagger to the music that very few artists ever have. Listen to this live version of The Spencer Davis Group’s "Gimme Some Lovin'" and see if you get what I mean.
