Here are some updates from today and yesterday. |
Today, the Board of Supervisors in Cochise County, Arizona appointed a new Elections Director after a tumultuous change of election authority. The new director has spread false claims on social media about voter fraud, voting machines and former President Donald Trump’s defeat in 2020.
Yesterday, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) signed a law that creates a process for voters to fix technical mistakes on their mail-in ballots and requires election officials to pre-process mail-in ballots before Election Day. Previously, Maryland prohibited the processing of mail-in ballots until the Wednesday after Election Day, which became the subject of litigation in 2022.
Also yesterday, residents of Jackson, Mississippi filed a second lawsuit against a recently enacted Mississippi law that places the majority-Black population of the state capitol under a separate, unelected court system. This lawsuit, filed in state court, comes on the heels of another lawsuit challenging the same law in federal court.
