Tonight’s the night, John!!

The 2020 presidential nomination process officially kicks off with the
Iowa caucuses.

In case you’re thinking, so what, what’s the big deal, let me explain why
Iowa matters:

Time and time again, the outcome of the Iowa caucuses indicates how strong
or weak a candidate’s campaign is. In 2004, Howard Dean went from
frontrunner to 4th place, nearly ending his campaign overnight. In 2008,
Obama went from underdog to front runner by soundly defeating Hillary
Clinton in a largely white state. In 2016, Bernie’s near miss victory
shocked the nation and started a neck and neck primary race that resulted
in 23 wins when not one expert in DC had predicted that Bernie could win
even a single state.

The fact is 7 out of 9 candidates who’ve won the Iowa caucus have gone on
to win the party nomination.

So yeah, tonight’s results are going to be a very big deal. That’s why
we’ve been hard at work leading the Progressives Unite 2020 coalition
focused on making sure Iowa voters don’t leave their caucus until a
progressive wins their location.

Here’s how it works: Candidates have to get at least 15% support in a
caucus location to be considered “viable.” If a candidate isn’t viable,
then their supporters can switch to another candidate or go home, and
that’s where our strategy really kicks in. We’re organizing voters,
especially supporters of candidates not likely to reach the threshold in a
lot of locations like Andrew Yang and Amy Klobchar, to switch to one of
the two leading progressives instead of going home or choosing a weaker
corporate candidate.

From the first vote in Iowa to the final vote at the DNC convention in
Wisconsin, DFA is putting in the work to send a progressive to the White
House. Support this critical campaign by pitching in
$10 or more

Thanks to your support and that of our 19 coalition partners, we’ve run
$50,000 worth of highly targeted social media ads working to mobilize
Progressives Unite voters to get out and caucus tonight!

Our strategy has been covered in the New York Times, Washington Post, and
the Associated Press to highlight just a few. Your voice has been heard on
CNN, NPR, Hill TV, and even FOX News, all contributing to dozens of media
hits helping to get our strategy in front of voters, not just in Iowa, but
nationwide.

As important as Iowa is, this fight will not end tonight.

It’s only just beginning, and if we’re going to make sure we defeat Donald
Trump and flip the Senate in November, progressives must unite to make
sure either Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren wins the nomination.
