Dear John,

For a shelter animal who’s anxious, under-socialized, healing, or lonely, a couple weeks in your home can be lifechanging. But not just for them.

Here’s what PAWS Chicago fosters had to say:

“I just feel like my husband and I have a whole new joy added to our lives. We never knew what it was like to have an animal in our home. And life is just better with fosters,” said Lauren Stanicek.

“Being a PAWS foster is a way to give, but the animals also bring immeasurable love into your lives. We are forever grateful to these marvelous creatures,” said Molly Crane.

“Once they’re gone, there is a period of calm in the house but also missing the cuteness and the cuddles. There are still tears on drop-off days, but that’s okay. You know you did something amazing for a pet in need,” said Ellie Feldmann.

For first-time fosters, we have pets that are healthy and just waiting for space to open up at our Adoption Center. Our foster matchmakers will find the perfect pet to fit your household needs, and PAWS provides everything to ensure a great foster experience: food, supplies, medical care and support.

Change A Life

A Right Place, Right Moment for Momo

With a broken leg, we knew Momo needed one surgery. We weren’t expecting her to return to the operating room just a week later for a completely different reason.

Tennessee Tornado Animal Rescue

Tornadoes recently ripped through and around Memphis, destroying homes and ruining businesses. Overnight, the Tipton County Animal Shelter in nearby Brighton, Tenn. was overwhelmed by an influx of stray and lost pets. With so many animals displaced by the storm, the homeless dogs and cats already in the shelter were facing euthanasia due to overcrowding conditions.

PAWS Chicago volunteers packed a van with pet supplies and headed to Tennessee. They returned to our Medical Center with 31 dogs and cats from the Tipton County shelter, met by staff and volunteers offering love, comfort, and all the medical care each animal required.

Peep the Pets

Volunteer of the Month: Emily Jensen

“I have had dogs my entire life as has my family—and probably all of my ancestors. So, the passion for dogs is embedded in my DNA. It's important to give dogs that need it the great life they deserve. All of my dogs have increased my quality of life ten-fold, so I'm just returning the favor.”

My Very First Foster

After being hit by a car and having his leg amputated, cat Lobo needed a safe place to heal and regain his balance. Thankfully, first-time foster Rose Jones was there to help Lobo prepare for a new home.

"What I loved the most was just how much he wanted to be loved. He was just the best foster to start with,” said Rose.
