We have been emailing a lot recently, and I can’t thank you enough for all the support you have shown as I continue to fight back against right-wing attacks on the foundation of our democracy.

With all that’s going on, I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss the other important priorities that I’ve been working on.

My bill, the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act passed the Judiciary Committee and continues to advance through Congress.

The MORE Act is the most comprehensive marijuana reform bill ever introduced in Congress and is backed by a broad coalition of civil rights, criminal justice, drug policy, and immigration groups.

Earlier this month, another bill I wrote, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), passed the Judiciary Committee.

This law is designed to stop pregnant workers from having to choose between staying in an unsafe job or losing economic security. We need to do better to ensure that pregnant women don’t have to make impossible and painful choices, and this bill is an important step forward.

I’ve long fought to advance the Equal Rights Amendment, and in 2018 held an important markup hearing that made it possible for Virginia to recently become the final state needed to ratify equal rights for women in the Constitution. After decades of stagnation, all of our hard work is poised to come to fruition, and I am proud to be a part of the fight.

We live in challenging times, but that’s why it’s more important than ever that we continue to fight and push the ball forward on issues that matter.

Politics isn’t a game and what we do matters to real families. That’s why I’m so honored to be here in the fight with you.

Together, we will continue to do everything in our power to challenge structural inequality and build a future for us and future generations.
