Hi, This just came out from Politico: Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch had a 40-acre piece of land for sale, sitting on the market, for nearly two years. Then, just nine days after Gorsuch was confirmed to the nation’s highest court, he found a buyer: the head of one of the nation’s biggest law firms that regularly argues cases in front of the Court.1 Gorsuch NEVER disclosed who the buyer was. On federal disclosure forms, Gorsuch reported how much money he made from the transaction, between $250,000 and $500,000, but left the box meant to identify the purchaser BLANK.2 Ethical concerns have been uncovered involving ALL of the conservative Justices on the Supreme Court. A long list of concerns belongs to Clarence Thomas. Alito, Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Roberts also have glaring ethical questions they must answer. Congress must pass the SCOTUS Ethics Act to stop these scandals and restore integrity to the Supreme Court. Sign the petition to Congress: Require the Supreme Court to follow ethics rules! There’s a glaring potential conflict of interest when Gorsuch is presiding over cases argued by the law firm led by the guy who Gorsuch made hundreds of thousands of dollars off of just nine days after Gorsuch ascended to SCOTUS. Like this Gorsuch scandal, there are a myriad of alarming ethical concerns with Clarence Thomas’ lavish superyacht vacations with GOP billionaire mega-donor Harlan Crow, the income Thomas reported from a business that shut down 17 years ago,3 and his wife’s connections to attempts to overturn the 2020 election.4 Amy Coney Barrett won’t disclose what high-powered national law firm her husband works for, or which clients he’s had.5 John Roberts’ wife has earned millions in commissions for recruiting attorneys for jobs at law firms, which include firms that have cases before the Supreme Court.6 These present a bevy of potential conflicts of interest that should not exist on the nation’s highest court. Any one of these things would warrant a thorough rethinking of Supreme Court ethics — yet nothing has been done. There is NO code of ethics that Supreme Court Justices must follow, because Justices won’t create and enforce one. We need Congress to act and pass a SCOTUS Ethics Act right away. Add your name: Congress must require Supreme Court Justices follow a code of ethics. Thanks for taking action, Sources:
