On March 28, during Women’s History Month, our Latino Caucus held a general meeting where they highlighted and celebrated the power of Latinas in Politics. The discussion, which took place virtually, featured Latino Caucus Chair Arlene Quiñones Perez, NJDSC Executive Director Saily Avelenda, and Morris County Dems Chair Amalia Duarte.

We are also excited to introduce you to the new co-chair of NJDSC’s Muslim Caucus, Omar A. Bareentto. Omar is a litigation and governmental affairs associate at McCarter & English, LLP. He has prosecuted and defended claims, in both state and federal courts, involving breach of contract, fraud, tortious interference with contract, restrictive covenants, shareholder oppression, breach of fiduciary duty, and federal and state securities laws claims. He is a first-generation Oromo-American living in Newark, New Jersey.

Our Muslim Caucus advocates for the rights of Muslim communities across the State of New Jersey through legislative advocacy, education, and political support. Caucus members help inform the public about the struggles facing the Muslim community and lead citizens to take action at the state and local level.
