Dear friend,
Last Friday, U.S. Senators cast their vote on whether or not to hear from witnesses in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard that in a 51-49 vote, the Senate -- including Mississippi’s Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith -- voted to block additional witnesses, eliminating any chance of a fair trial.
You might be asking yourself, as I am, why did Cindy-Hyde Smith vote against hearing from first-hand witnesses who could provide new, relevant information in this critical trial in our country’s history? Sadly, the answer is clear: she has chosen to put party loyalty above our Constitution, our democracy, and her oath of office.
We knew how Hyde-Smith was going to vote from the start: she made it clear from her litany of tweets that she was dead-set on defending President Trump, who held three separate rallies in Mississippi for her in the 2018 election.
This is a disappointing and serious time for our democratic republic, and if we’re going to steer clear of continuing down this path of hyper-partisanship over country, we need to defeat Hyde-Smith and take back the Senate this November.
I am ready, willing, and able to fight for Mississippians and our American values in the U.S. Senate. Will you help me get there by contributing $10 or more to our people-powered campaign today?
