For Immediate Release
WEST OLIVE ? Ottawa County Clerk and Register of Deeds Justin Roebuck announced two changes that will boost the security of how Ottawa County's election results are transmitted and displayed. Roebuck stated that his office will no longer utilize the method of electronic results transmission to deliver unofficial totals to the Clerk's Office on Election Night. Instead, deputized staff will be retrieving the results data directly from local clerks' offices on Election Night. The sealed containers in which results are placed, will be tracked in real time by GPS as they are transported back to the County Clerk's Office. Once there, the results will be posted on the County's website.
The change from electronic to hand delivery of results will affect the speed at which results are posted for the May election. However, the Clerk's Office team is deploying resources to minimize these impacts and anticipates only a slight delay.
Roebuck's elections team has also secured a ".gov" domain for Ottawa County Elections. Members of the public and media will now find all election results reported on www.miOttawaVotes.gov. .Gov domain sites are easily identifiable to members of the public as coming from a government entity, as there is a stringent review process to ensure that every applicant for a gov domain is a U.S.-based government or public sector organization.
"These process improvements are a major part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the security and integrity of our elections," said Roebuck. "I?m excited that we can roll out changes now to ensure that our team is prepared in advance of next year?s presidential election cycle."
