Ethics problem after ethics problem

Whitehouse for Senate

Team,

FIRST: A scathing report from ProPublica revealed Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas received gifts and accommodations – including a single trip worth over $500,000 – from a multi-billionaire Republican mega-donor. The travel wasn’t disclosed.

THEN: Another report broke the following week, exposing that the same Republican mega-donor bought a string of properties in Georgia owned by Justice Thomas… and Thomas apparently ignored the federal law requiring justices to disclose all real estate transactions over $1,000.

NOW: I’m demanding that we pass my legislation to clean up the ethics mess at the Supreme Court.

Justice Thomas has shown a pattern of blatant noncompliance with disclosure requirements. Join me in calling for passage of my Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act to make sure Justice Thomas and the other Supreme Court justices can be held accountable to the American people. Sign your name right now >>

For years, I’ve been saying that we need an enforceable code of conduct at the Supreme Court – the American people deserve to know how big money interests are spending to influence the justices. My SCERT Act requires the justices to be more transparent about possible conflicts of interest, better disclose travel and gifts, and reveal the funders of the special interests who lobby the Court.

The highest court in our country should not have the lowest standards.

We must bring the Supreme Court into alignment with the rest of our federal courts. Add your name to send a message: It’s past time to pass my legislation and implement a real ethics code at SCOTUS – one with investigations and determinations.

Thank you,

Sheldon Whitehouse
