It’s hard to overstate the seriousness of the recent bombshell revelations about Clarence Thomas’s decades-long patronage relationship with billionaire Republican mega-donor Harlan Crow. The fact that Justice Thomas felt comfortable accepting a series of opulent gifts and vacations from the reclusive real estate mogul is an obvious indictment of our judicial ethics system. And the fact that he appears to have concealed these benefits from the public may be just as great a problem. CREW explained in our recent complaint to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Chief Justice John Roberts that Thomas’s decision not to disclose these luxuries as gifts or in-kind travel-reimbursements — and concealing the real estate transactions — likely violated the Ethics in Government Act. I wrote all about why this cover-up damages public trust in the Court in my op-ed for MSNBC (you can read that here). For the sake of the legitimacy of the Supreme Court, we must make sure that Clarence Thomas is investigated and held accountable for any wrongdoing. We’re not the only ones who believe that. That’s why a generous donor is matching up to $10,000 in donations made to CREW through the end of the month to make sure we have the resources we need to fight for an investigation and accountability. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
