States across the nation are working hard to pass new gun violence prevention bills. We are are watching Virginia when it comes to the movement to end gun violence. In November, Virginians made history when they flipped their House and Senate to a gun safety majority — the first time in more than 20 years. Those elected officials are making landmark progress in delivering the will of the people and creating a safer Virginia by pushing through Gov. Northam’s lifesaving, comprehensive package of gun violence prevention bills.

Currently, MA, HI, NJ, NY, CT, CA, MD, + DC have a ban on assault weapons. Virginia has the chance to join that list. A bill to ban assault weapons (HB 961) has faced an uphill battle, with strong resistance from the gun lobby. We have a tight timeline — February 11 is the deadline for HB 961 to be passed by the full House of Delegates. We know this bill will save lives — evidence proves it.

Join the #IStandWithVirginia campaign to make sure our lawmakers, fellow Virginians, fellow Americans, and the pro-gun extremists know that the gun-sense majority will prevail. Post it to social media with the hashtags #BanWeaponsOfWar and #IStandWithVirginia

Examples:

Assault weapons are used in the deadliest mass shootings in America. They're uniquely lethal, allowing the most murders in the shortest amount of time. These weapons of war have no place in civilian hands. #BanWeaponsOfWar #IStandWithVirginia

67% of Americans support an assault weapons ban. It’s time to pass this common-sense legislation in Virginia! #BanWeaponsOfWar #IStandWithVirginia

Thanks for all you do!
